Wedding veils have long been a classical hallmark of weddings and are said to the oldest part of the bridal ensemble. They were once worn to represent untouched maidens and also to hide her away from evil spirits. Nowadays, the bridal veil creates a sense of drama and elegance as well as providing those amazing magazine quality photo opportunities!
Over the ages veils have changed shapes and designs, with cap veils popular in the 1920s, birdcage veils in the 1940s, extravagant and volumous veils in the 1980s and the minimalist veil returning in the 2000s. No matter the look, the veil has always been a statement and will continue through time.
Dreamtime Designs have been designing, creating and handmaking wedding veils for over 25 years and have a style to match any type of wedding gown and aesthetic.

Congratulations on finding your perfect dress! Now to find the perfect wedding veil to compliment your gown. How do you do this? What do you look for? Where do you start? Fear not! We will help you figure out just what you are after!
For the majority of brides, this will be the first time you will wear a veil or you may have worn one for your communion or as a flower girl.
As a general guide, your veil should be chosen to compliment your wedding dress. This could be as simple as a timeless raw edge veil to showcase the beautiful detailing of your gown, or a lace edge veil that adds an extra bit of interest and elegance to your gown, or even a veil with crystals to give you that extra bling!
Make sure you also consider your hairstyle options when deciding on what type of veil you would like, and always remember to bring your veil and your hair accessories to your hair trial so your stylist will know exactly how the accessories will be placed and secured for your big day.
With all of this in mind, let’s take a look at the standard cuts and lengths.
This is also known as the face veil and covers the bride’s face. On request, blushers can be made longer or shorter (to cover bouquets) and can also be attached to the comb via press studs so it is removable after the wedding ceremony.
This style of cut is circular in nature, which includes a face veil. This is made from one piece of tulle allowing the edging to continue around the entirety of the veil.
This style of cut can be used for numerous tiers of a veil (we have 2 tiered and 3 tiered veils in this cut) and allows the edging for each tier to be added the whole way around the tier to the comb. These split veils generally have gathers on the comb.
This is a single tiered veil where the tulle is gathered onto the comb.
This is an egg-shaped veil which has only a single layer. This type of veil also has the ability to have a comb with no gathers which drapes smoothly over the bride’s head and shoulders.
This is a circular cut single layer of tulle which appears to be dropped over the bride’s head and is usually fastened by pins rather than a comb.
This style of veil is a square cut piece of tulle resulting in four corners which are generally accentuated by crystal drops. This style of veil can be worn as a 2 tier with a blusher.
Our veils are measured in inches, from where the veil will sit on the head to the end of the fabric. As a guide, we have put together some standard lengths and their names.

Wedding veils can be secured either by combs or pins into the hair. There are a number of combs available as well as combless veil styles on request. Once you decide on your hairstyle, you should speak to your stylist before ordering your veil so you know exactly what type of comb to order.
Veils are generally worn with the comb in a downwards facing position, which is great when having your hair down, wearing a mantilla style veil or when wearing the veil over a bun. We also offer a backcomb, which allows for a fuller looking veil which also covers the binding on the comb. If you plan on wearing the veil under a bun then a reverse comb would be more suited to this look. When in doubt, speak to your hair stylist or your bridal consultant and they will be able to help you with your decision.
It is best if the hairdresser teases part of your hair in order to have something for the veil to secure into. Alternatively, if you have short hair, you can create tiny ponytails with elastic bands under your chosen hairstyle.
All of our veils are hand made to order, with attention to detail and product quality our highest priority. We hope you love our veils as much as the love we put into them while making them.
